Final Post March 7, 2011
I think the exhibition was worked the best in this project. When it was time for us to actually present our projects I feel like we all pulled through and did our best to show the importance of our issues.
I don't think our preparation for exhibition went very well. I think every student on the team would agree with me when I say that we didn't use our time very wisely. We could've done a coffee house that was extremely realistic, but in the end it still looked somewhat like a classroom.
I feel like I didn't do the best I could've for myself because at the beginning of the project, my creative juices weren't flowing very well. So I ended up doing a project that wasn't exactly what I was going for. As for as my group contribution, I feel like I did a really great job of keeping us all on task. I think this shows in our presentation script because I took the time to find useful facts and organize who would talk and when.
If I could've done anything differently it would be to do a painting instead of a video, for Humanities. Painting is something that I really enjoy so I feel like if I would've done one I would be more proud of my project.
Dedication is the single most important skill I have learned from this project. If every student was offering their full dedication to our project and exhibition then we could've had an even more amazing final product.

I'm not completely ready for exhibition in the academic sense. I still need to make a few final touches to the appearance and information given at our table. Emotionally I'm as ready as possible.
I don't really feel like I'm giving the best I have in this project because I wasn't really sure what I wanted to do for my project until last minute. If I would've figured it out ahead of time I think I would be more proud of my final project.
My favorite quality about my project is that it makes people think. To me that's the most important. If I could change anything, I would add more information about the issue, not just pictures and videos.
With the extra work time this week I have been organizing what my group is going to be saying during our presentation and the actual exhibition night.
I feel fine about going on stage to present our Humanities project, the music project is another story. My group has had a lot of changes to our song so today we have to finalize everything. Until that's done I'm going to feel a little unsteady.

I was really impressed by Tressa Thompson's art piece for this project. She changed her idea after drawing her original plan and she is much happier with her second piece of work. I thought that it was really impressive that she restarted something that took her a lot of time.
I am nervous about my music performance because I am not sure what song my band is going to be playing. As far as the presentations on the silenced, I am also a little 'iffy'. Our group hasn't discussed EXACTLY what we want to do, so we don't have a plan of action. After these things are clarified (tomorrow) I will be more confident and know what to expect.
So far I have finished my research paper and instrument. Also I have started my individual product and begun planning the room design with my fellow Organizers and Beautifiers.
This is exactly what I thought exhibition would be like... Stressful.
I have gained a lot of new skills, but I think the greatest one has been confidence. When I'm confident I'm not afraid to make sure people are getting their work done and I'm not afraid to ask for help. This helps me in a lot of areas, not just academically.

As of right now my level of stress isn't very high... I'd place it at about a 2 or a 2 1/2. Up until about an hour ago I was at a 7 on the stress scale. This is because of the individual product due for the For Those With No Voice part of exhibition. I am the cultural ambassador and I chose to make a video/slide show about the joys of Uganda and what's hidden underneath it's beautiful exterior. To do that, I would need to recreate scenes from Africa... I don't live in Africa so I was stressed about making the Ugandan illusion for my viewers. However, I remembered a nursery that I visited when I was about nine years old and how it looked like Africa. So I went back there today and the owner was ecstatic to have me film there. Now that I have an official plan of action I am extremely excited to finish this project and show it off at exhibition.
As a whole our group has been semi punctual meeting deadlines. Individually we all meet the deadlines we have set for ourselves so far. However, when it comes to regular assignments some of our group has been slacking off making it harder for us to finish as a whole.
My project has definitely not been working out the way I envisioned it. I was planing on downloading some images of Africa and abused women from this location, but when I finished that I was disappointed with what I had created. So now that I have a new plan, I am trying to make it exactly as I'm currently envisioning it.
My personal biggest achievement was today when I visited the nursery. I am a shy person around people I've never met before and I don't usually like to ask for help, so asking someone if I could film a project on their property was a little nerve racking. Once I saw such an excited response from the owner I felt comfortable and I think that stepping out of my comfort zone on this task can help me in the future and it definitely made this project 100 times better.
To make my project excellent, I think that I should get peer critique. I'm making a video which is meant to be seen by other people. So if I ask others what they would like to see, it can only help make beautiful work.

At this point I feel like I am able to take on exhibition. I have a well thought out plan of action for my final project and communication between the team is working really well so far. The hard part about exhibition is that we do one project for each of our classes. That means there is three times the normal amount of work in only 9 days. This can be really intimidating and at the same time really rewarding when a deadline is met. I wish there was more time, but I think that its also not impossible.
My goal for this week is to meet every deadline that I have set for myself. When brainstorming my calendar, I considered the work load in every task. I feel that if I follow through with this then I will be able to complete all of my projects with flying colors.
Out of the four products that are going to be produced within my group, I am most interested in seeing Tressa Thompson's video on the importance of spreading awareness about abuse towards women and girls with disabilities in Uganda, Africa.
Our group is focusing on the topic previously stated. We feel that this is extremely important for people to know about because these women, especially, because they are helpless. They cannot express the emotional trauma that has been placed upon them and they are unable to get the medical attention they need, after the fact. Even the smallest amount of support from people around the world can save at least one life.

So far in this project, we have been put into groups of four (with our Making Music partners) and researched different topics. These topics are based off of different areas in the world that have people who are being silenced. In our groups we all agreed to research one main topic and base our exhibition project.
I am pretty confident in succeeding for this project. I'm going to try to explore more project ideas and possibly make a music video showing the customs and traditions that are acted out in Uganda, Africa. I'm really excited to learn new concepts for making videos and researching their culture.
So far I would say that our group dynamic is at about a 3 on a scale of 1 - 5 (5 being the best). We all agreed on which jobs we would like to have (Cultural Ambassador, myself) but when we started to research topics, some of our group members were ignoring their responsibilities. We expressed that we would want them to help out more and they began to join in.
I think the most exciting thing about the upcoming Exhibition Night is the audience. Since it is my first HTHNC Exhibition, I'm excited to see what kind of people come to see the projects that we've created. I also think that no matter the audience, just having my work seen by the community is an exciting event.
My worry for Exhibition Night is that my music video won't be as impressive as I had imagined it. Since it is a new concept to me - making a music video - I'm a little worried that it won't go exactly as planned. Sometimes going of the planned path can be a good thing... Sometimes.
