Chameleon Care Sheet
Living Space Requirements
Linear dimensions (9”)
Volume dimensions (27”)
Hide #1 Requirement
Medium sized vines and foilage within the enclosure
Substrate Requirement
Reptile carpet or digestible substrate (Bottom)
Water & Feeding requirement
Water should be sprayed on leaves 2x a day or allowed drip onto leaves, when young they need a heavy mist once a day
Varied diet: mostly crickets, but should also eat: meal worms, silk worms, butter worms, wax worms (limited- high fat), super worms, and earthworms (only some chameleons)
*dust with calcium powder every second feeding when the chamelion is young, and two to three times a week when adults. Switch to a multi-vitamin with calcium when it is 6-8 months old.
Some will eat plant matter: lettuce greens, spinach, and other green leaf vegetables
* not all chameleons will eat the same things, so it is important to experiment
Lighting / Heating requirements
Day- UVB light and heat light (needs to be two different lights) that provides a gradient of heat through the cage (80 F-95 F) from the top of the cage
Night- Night time bulb( only if below mid 40’s) that provides gradient of heat (70 degrees- 85 degrees)
6-8 inches above basking perch
*Needs low humidity
* HEATING PADS WILL BURN THE CHAMELEON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cleaning / Filtration requirements
Do you need to clean / filter anything continuously? How quickly? How often should water and substrate be changed?
Cage
Full screen (no glass) ideally wire
( the air needs to circulate and it is scared of it’s reflection) should be larger than or equal to 3’x3’x3’ cage. provide lots of vines to walk on and leaves to climb, and there should be foliage between the chameleon and outside it’s cage.
